CHAMBER CHOIR

A full year, graded course, Members of Chamber Choir will continue to practice the skills necessary to be independent choral singers, build understanding of advanced music concepts, continue to practice good vocal technique, and foster a strong commitment and love of choral music.  Students will be challenged throughout the year to improve vocal technique, music reading skills, aural literacy, and understanding of music concepts. 

The Chamber Choir performs twice during the school year. Attendance at performances is mandatory, and attendance at other music department events is encouraged. All singers are asked to maintain a dedicated binder for this class.

Class Goals:

  • Develop understanding of vocal technique, vowel shapes, and healthy singing habits
  • Practice using tools such as solfege and a rhythmic counting system in reading new music
  • Compose vocalizes and other exercises with awareness of basic vocal pedagogy
  • Study cultural/historical significance of repertoire
  • Analyzing the fundamentals of music (melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre, texture, form) in repertoire

Rehearsal Schedule

Chamber Choir meets on days 2, 5, & 8 within the present eight-day course rotation.  Rehearsals always occur during the X-Block from 1:43 to 2:48 PM.

Friday, October 9, 2009 – Due date for students wishing to audition for the Middle School Northern Regional Festival.
Thursday, December 3, 2009 – Har-Bur 7/8 Choral Concert, featuring the Concert Choir and Chamber Choir
Friday, February 5, 2010 - Har-Bur Coffee House Cabaret
Friday-Saturday, March 5-6, 2010 - Northern Region Middle School Festival - Locale:  Har-Bur Middle School/Lewis Mills High School
Tuesday-Wednesday, May 4-5, 2010 – 5-12 Choral Festival
Friday, May 14, 2010 - Spring adjudication festival
