Recording Technology is one of several classroom music classes taught at Lewis S. Mills. Through the use of state-of-the-art technologies, students will learn the basics of audio recording and production, and will apply that knowledge to the creation of finished recording projects.

This course is designed in several units, each which explores an aspect of the world of recording technology. Topics covered will include microphone types and placement, mixers, amplifiers and speakers, and an introduction to digital workstation software used in the creation of multi-track recordings. Students will be involved both at the theoretical and at the practical level as they design, assemble, and run actual sound systems, and set up and run multi-track recording sessions. Opportunities will be available for students to apply their knowledge in "real-world" settings, and to produce finished recording projects of student and school groups. Regular and on-going evaluation of the students' progress will be done through class work and homework assignments, practical demonstrations of knowledge, and written tests an projects.
