UNIFORM INFORMATION

The Lewis S. Mills High School Spartan Band is fortunate to have new and well cared for band uniforms for concert and marching ensembles. The cost of all of our uniforms is absolutely astronomical when you consider the fact that our organizations combined total in excess of 190. Because of this, it becomes necessary for us to be sure that the uniforms are accounted for, properly maintained, and cared for in an appropriate way by all of the students that they are assigned to.

This year's schedule for the distribution of band uniforms is below. Each student will be required to pay $24.00 for 2 cleanings throughout the year. They may also be required to pay for any tailoring that needs to be done to ensure the proper fit of their uniform.  A tailor will be on hand to take care of these issues at each of the fitting times.  In addition, all students and parents will be asked to sign a contract upon the receipt of their uniform agreeing to the terms and conditions associated with the use of all Spartan Band owned uniforms and accessories.

Should you require any additional information regarding band uniforms or the policies and procedures for their use please feel free to contact Beth Niedmann, Uniform Coordinator by e-mail at bethniedmann@snet.net.

WEARER'S RESPONSIBILITY:

·      All uniforms must be professionally dry cleaned ONLY!
·      Do NOT clean uniform in your home washing machine.
·      Do NOT hand clean in any manner.
·      Do NOT use any kind of water; spot cleaning chemicals or bleaches on the uniform.
·      Should the uniform get wet from rain, hang it properly and allow it to air dry in an open space.  Do NOT put the uniform in the dryer.  Leave the hat out to air dry as well.
·      Store the uniform properly.  Jacket and pants on hangers and the hat in its provided box.  Storing the uniform properly will keep it wrinkle free and avoid having to be pressed.
·      Should the uniform need pressing, please use a cool iron ONLY.
·      When transporting the uniform to an event, place it in a garment bag for protection from staining and tears.
·      Do NOT do any alterations to the uniform (ex. hemming pants or jacket sleeves).  A professional tailor through the “Friends of the Lewis S. Mills Band” does alterations.
·      Examine the uniform after each wear.  Should you find anything wrong with the uniform (tears or stains), let a band advisor know immediately.
·      A PLAIN white tee shirt or official band tee shirt (with sleeves – NO tank tops) must be worn under each uniform jacket.  The tee shirt will help to absorb sweat and protect the uniform from permanent staining.  This will help to prolong the life of the uniform.   Tee shirts of color and/or with logos show through the white jacket and bring down the integrity of the uniform.  Any student wearing this type of tee shirt will not be allowed to march, which may affect their grade.

The “Friends of the Lewis S. Mills Band” collects the uniforms after the fall and spring marching seasons, and has all the uniforms dry cleaned.  The SAME uniform from the fall will be reissued to each student for the spring marching season.  Should the uniform require additional cleaning while in the student’s possession, please notify the band director or see a band advisor for assistance.  Additional cleanings may be the responsibility of the student/guardian but can be avoided with proper care.
