Foundations of Art is open to all students. This course is designed to provide basic skills in drawing, sculpture, and painting. Composition, perspective, color theory and art history will be taught and related to all of the areas listed above. Foundations of Art is required for students planning to enroll in a specialized art course. The only exception to this requirement will be granted by a portfolio review and permission of the teacher and administration. Written tests, quizzes, art history lessons and critiques will be assigned.


DRAWING

Level 2
Grades 10,11,12

Prerequisite: Foundations of Art

Drawing will be a continuation of the skills presented in the introductory course although the assignments will be more difficult. Students will be expected to draw from observation and imagination. Topics will include still life, interiors/exteriors and figure. Critiques, written evaluations, exams, annotated sketchbook and homework will be assigned. A sketchbook will be required.


PAINTING

Level 2
Grades 10,11,12

Prerequisite: Foundations of Art

This course is open to students who have completed Foundations of Art. It is assumed that students have mastered the basics and are ready to learn the more complex painting techniques. Such topics as preparation and maintenance of materials, style, technique, planning, execution and analysis of paintings will be introduced. Assignments will include art history, sketchbook/journal, homework, research, written evaluations, critiques and exams.


STUDIO ART

Prerequisite: Painting and Drawing

Studio Art is open to students who have completed Painting and Drawing and who want to continue in painting, drawing and printmaking at a more sophisticated level. Because of the depth of this course, the amount of effort required will approach that of a professional nature. A sketchbook/journal is required. Written tests, quizzes, exams, art critiques, research, homework and independent outside work will be assigned.


ADVANCED STUDIO ART

Grades 10,11,12

Prerequisite: Studio Art

Advanced Studio Art is a course for students planning to go on with their education in art following high school graduation. Students can expect a greater workload and more demanding course requirements. Some of the areas included in this course will be advanced drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. Outside work and a journal/sketchbook will be required. Critiques, written evaluations, reports, and exams will be assigned.


DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Level 2
Grades 10,11,12

Prerequisite: Foundations of Art

This course is designed to introduce students to basic digital photography.  Curricula will include:  camera operation, digital transfer, image manipulation, and printing.  Students will utilize the Key Points of Composition and The Elements and Principles of Art in establishing images.  Written exams, art critiques, research, journals, and homework will be assigned.
