Dawn Marie Conroy has previously taught K – 5 music in Regional School District No. 6. She is currently responsible for all 5 – 6 grade music activities in Regional School District No. 10. Mrs. Conroy specializes in Classroom and Choral Music. Her focus has been on skill building: teaching music literacy, specifically rhythmic and melodic notation, singing, and musical artistry. She has been active in her professional organizations including the CT Music Educator’s Association and the CT chapter of the American Choral Director’s Association. In addition to adjudicating for CMEA, Mrs. Conroy served three years as Choir Chairperson for the Connecticut Music Education Association’s Northern Region Middle School Festival. Currently, she is serving as Chairperson of the Professional Affairs Commission for CMEA. She also edits the Cantabile newsletter for CT ACDA. Her teaching credits include presenting for CMEA in the areas of sight-reading and dictation. Her area music performance credits include music directing for Northwestern Regional No. 7 Theater Arts programs, the Thomaston Opera House, Canton Benefit Productions, Torrington Civic Theater Company, and the Warner Theater. In addition, Mrs. Conroy has accompanied for Lewis S. Mills High School Concert Choir and Drama, Cheshire Community Theater, Rainbow Summer Theater, Plainville High School Swing Choir, Saint Mary’s Children’s Theater, Blessed Sacrament, Crosby High School and Teikyo Post University Players. She was organist at Sacred Heart Parish in Bloomfield for fifteen years and then served as Music Director for one more. She moved to First Congregational Church in Thomaston in 2005 where she currently plays the organ and directs the Chancel Choir. Mrs. Conroy has studied piano with Susan Norland, MaryAnne Barnicle, Edward Jardim, and Watson Morrison. Her conducting tutelage has been provided by Dr. Michael Yachanin at the Hartt School, Dr. Fernando Jimenez and Dr. Kevin Isaacs at Western CT State University, and Dr. James Jordan at Westminster Choir College.
