Lynn trained with the state of Connecticut in the BEST program to become a cooperating teacher/mentor and has been training student teachers since 1988.Several years ago she was selected to work for the state again and learned to become a beginning teacher portfolio scorer. In 1997 she received the CONNECTICUT ELEMENTARY ART TEACHER OF THE YEAR award from the C.A.E.A. (connecticut art education association).
Lynn was the first elementary art teacher in Region #10 and worked in both Burlington and Harwinton that first year. She started the first elementary art curriculum in the district. The following year the program was expanded and she's been at Lake Garda School ever since. While at Lake Garda School, Lynn developed March art shows in town to celebrate youth art month, and began the tradition of having a schoolwide end- of-the-year student art show to show off the fabulous student art work. Framed student artwork is also featured in school and in the district offices.
Lynn has also been on the Region 10 cultural arts committee since it's beginning in 1976. This is a committee dedicated to bring all the professional art forms to the chldren and sponsoring field trips. It is through that committee that all fifth grade students are able to visit art museums. Lynn also created artist day, which brings six professional artists to show and demonstrate their work to students. By the time a student leaves Lake Garda they will have seen 18 different professional art forms.
As you can tell, Lynn really enjoys her first love, teaching the children.
